Hello..
Hw does gout pain feel like?.. I mean do yu feel the pain exactly on the joints.. I am asking because my mom has pain every morning and during night. and less pain in the afternoon. she barely can walk and stand.. her one foot and some fingers in the hands are swolen.. she also complain of pain in her shoulders.. as well as a slight numbness and tingling between her toes..

were thinking its gout as well as her doctor.. but recently when i ask her if the pain is in the joints.. she says its not its more like pain under the knee to the thigh.. and more like muscles/tedons close o the joint in her fingers.. so now I'm thinking maybe the doctor misdiagnose her and its some sort of dvt or circulation probem.. she's been on allopurinol for 3 weeks now and eating lots of fruits banana as well as lemon juice..

please i apprecate your inputs and experiece.

gout pain
my doctor told me not to take maintenance medicines like allopurinol when you have gout attacks or swelling. It will more aggravate the pain...

Gout Pain
THe pain that your mom describes in her knee sounds exaclty like mine. I was diagnosed with gout and I can tell you that the pain eminates from under the knee cap into the thigh area. That happens when it is at its worst, but I too can definitely feel it in my thigh emanating from my knee where it is most severe. There is no words to describe the intense pain. I say that it feels like someone is driving a railroad spike through my knee.

Your mom should not take the allopurinol while having an attack. The allopurinol will make the attack worse. Once ALL of the pain and symptoms from her latest attack have subsided she should resume taking the allopurinol. Also, if she just started taking allopurinol the drop in acid levels can trigger a flare up. This is normal when starting on the allopurinol therapy.
