Good ideas for a vacay destination?

We are thinking about someplace to vacation ...we've kind of narrowed it down to the east coast south of Norfolk, VA to northern Florida, or the Gulf coast near the panhandle of Florida or such nearby. Definately want the ocean involved!

We aren't fans of heavily touristed areas and we like nature. We like kind of off the wall or educational exhibits to see. Our last vacation was a short trip (well, 7 hr drive) to Atlanta to see the aquarium there for example.

Any ideas? We'll be driving so we have a car to get around. curtsey

Check out Live Oak, Florida. I've been to a music festival there..it's AMAZING! Near a river and lots of old trees. Not too far away from the panhandle. There are also some clear springs nearby where I hear that you can swim with the manatees! St. Petersburg hosts the biggest Salvador Dali collection in N. America, I think. Might also be worth checking out.

You're very welcome. Also, there's a white sand beach at Clearwater, I think, (where they filmed the final scenes of "Contact") which is pretty crowded but an attraction. And a Barnum and Bailey museum also in or around St. Petersburg.
