how long is typical wait before going weight-bearing on foot after ORIF surgery?

i have only 2 screws in at the medial malleolus and am hearing my orthopedic doctors telling me i have to wait 9 weeks! is this typical?

Thanks for using this forum....

Weight bearing on cast is usually allowed in 2-3 weeks but there may be other reasons for cautioning you to bear weight...you may ask the concerned physician about it..there may be stuff like swelling,infection etc to avoid weight bearing or the bone quality....
