After 5 and a half years of being on some sort of hormonal BC, i've finally decided that i want to get off of it. I've tried a few different kinds and my last switch has been from yasmin to ortho tricyclen. I was too moody on yasmin (or so i thought) so figured i would go back to my first pill, ortho tricyclen. It's been two months since being back (yes i know it usually takes 3 months to get used to new pills) but i'm still miserable. I'm not as depressed but still very moody. I have worse acne, this is one of the biggest problems. My face feels shiny and greasy all day, and the only thing i can relate it to is the pill. I've tried changing my diet and drinking a lot of water, tried so many facewashes and nothing works. And my skin always clears up during the week i'm not on any pills, if that makes sense.
Most recently and most concerning is that i have started to have leg pains for the past two weeks. I know the symptoms of dtv quite well so i am keeping a close eye on the pain and check daily for swelling. I'm worried that being on the higher dose BC is increasing my risk.

So my questions are what should i expect when i come off the pills? Is there any chance my symptoms could get worse (skin, mood, etc?). WIll i feel like a totally new person? I've been on the pill since i was 16, so basically my whole adult life. My bf isnt too thrilled either, but we'll just have to be more careful. Also, if i do ever decide to go on the pill again (i'm going to go off of it for atleast 3-6 mo to get my system normal again) will my symptoms be much worse the second time around? I'd heard they usually are.
I'd love to hear from ppl who have been in this situation before.
THanks

I wasn't on the pill nearly as long as you, nor did I have negative side effects while taking the pill, but when I got off the only negative thing that happened was my cramps and PMS came back full force. My first month off birth control, my period was extremely heavy, but that seemed to go away or back to what they were before birth control a few months after that.

I dont remember my periods changing much while being on the pill, other than it came like clockwork. Hopefully i won't get heavier periods, but i know it will probably come at random times.
Am i going to have any other adverse side effects from my body starting to produce its own hormones now? headaches, nausea, etc

I just got headaches after comming off the pill. I got pregnant quickly after so can't tell for how long the headaches where going to last. I can tell that once pregnant I never had a headache again.

I just ready your original post and I'm with you on the whole BC nightmare for the last 5 years. Since having my children (son 5, daughter 2) I haven't been able to handle bcp. I tried so many kinds...too many to mention. I also tried depo which made me bleed for 6 months straight and Mirena which caused me worse depression, anxiety, NO libido etc etc. I hate bcp's and whenever I have gone off of it I fee like a million bucks but I'm not in a position to get pregnant again so I don't have much choice right now. Good luck!

So i would have started my new pack yesterday...but i didn't.!
I'm finally going to ovulate again. I'm a bit nervous of what to expect. So far my skin has cleared up a little bit and my moods are definately inproved. Hopefully things will continue to improve but we'll see..
