Q: Girlfriend possibly pregnant

My girlfriend and i had sex a day or two before her period was supposed to start. She says she has always started either the day or the day after her mom does but she hasn't yet its been about 5 days since we've had sex. She was a virgin beofore me. She's really scared and doesn't know for sure. Is it possible for her to get pregnant a day or 2 before her period?
any information will help me be able to help her calm down.
Thank you!

Stay calm...
Yes, it is possible for her to get pregnant at any point in her cycle. It is much less likely when it isn't around ovulation, but you don't know when she ovulates.

This may or may not be cause for concern. It sounds like you guys are young and sometimes girls have irregular cycles. It may be a little early for the test to tell, but go buy a pregnancy test together or, if you don't feel comfortable, ask an adult that you trust to do it. Remember, it is important for you guys to stay calm and work through this together.

If she is pregnant, talk calmly and rationally about what to do. Don't jump into any decisions out of fear. I know you might think that your parents will be angry or disappointed, and that may be true, but they can also provide important emotional support. You two should not have to go through this alone. I don't know what your family situation is, but your parents may be more understanding than you think.

If talking to your parents is out of the question, she can see her family doctor and he is required to keep the visit confidential.

***A final note: if she isn't pregnant, this is a lesson to always use protection. You should always use a condom to protect yourself, her, and to prevent pregnancy. A second form of birth control (such as the pill) would also be good because condoms do fail sometimes and aren't 100% effective.

Regardless of what happens, stick together and support each other.

All the best.

thank you for your help. the only thing is i don't know how to keep her calm and i am 90% positive she isn't and she keeps getting hysterical because she's late or just irreagular. She just keeps saying i've never been late i've never started later than 2 days after my mom and she keeps going into hysterical rants about it

It is understandable that she would be freaked out. Tell her that you'll be there for her and that you are in this together.

Go ahead and get the pregnancy test and find out for sure. Then you can deal with it either way. Just know that if it turns out to be negative, she may still be upset because something like this is really difficult to get over. Don't expect her to calm down right away. Just be supportive.

The earliest a pregnancy test would be positive would be 10-14 days after the sex. Did you wear a condom? You should both go visit a family planning office (planned parenthood is good) near you and get birth control. They will also give her a pregnancy test.

It is really unlikely she would have gotten pregnant just prior to her period unless she ovulate really late.

In all likelihood, she has had late periods before, she just isn't remembering them because there was never a risk she was pregnant before now. Fear and anxiety and freakishly cause late periods. Often, as soon as someone takes a pregnancy test that turns up negative, they have their period.

DO NOT HAVE SEX WITHOUT BIRTH CONTROL AND CONDOMS. Smile

Even if you have sex with bc and condoms, it sounds like she will still worry. How can she be physically enjoying sex this way? Maybe you two should wait to have sex again until you are both a little older.
