First of all, congratulations!! Well if you don't want to be like those whack-jobs than don't name your child Pau. Let Pau Gasol keep his name. I guarantee your child will go through life with other kids saying "POW" and punching him in the face. Elora sounds pretty with a hint of old-fashioned which is nice. If you use Leon most people will call him Lee and there is really nothing special about that. I apologize to anyone with that name. Ruud! Do you really want people calling your child Rude?? Remember, most musicians use names that were made up so they can stand out on stage and you don't want your child's name to stand out so they are made fun of. Give your child a name they can walk through life with and be proud of. A name is a very important title. There are some beautiful names out there to choose from. Sometimes when people try to make up their own names it just causes misery for the child. Naming your child is a big decision. Think it through carefully. I am a middle school teacher and I've heard many kids cry over their names that have caused them so much grief.

i agree. and this is my problem!! girls names are so much easier because there are soo many that are beautifully different. but with boys names, its completely different story. i have a 7 year old son and i named him Ian James (named after Ian McKaye and my grandfather James). i adore the name ian. its a common name, but apparently not where i live in pennsylvania. ive probably only met 2 other people named ian. i just cant think of any handsome tough names for boys that my boyfriend and i can agree on. i dont want a name like david, daniel, jack, justin, robert, etc. i want something refreshing and handsome. i think a persons name has a strong influence on who they become as adults, and this is why im struggling. secretly, im hoping for a little girl (i already have my little boy!) just so this boy-name-thing doesnt become a huge issue!

wendyrs: youre a teacher.... have you come across any strong handsome names that are not as common?

I don't like too many boys names either but I have two sons myself and I love their names, Brian and Jeff. They are teens now and have never complained about their names. I think they are masculine and nothing to make fun of. I think Ryan is also a nice masculine name for a boy. Another name I think is cute and masculine is Rory, Andrew, Mack, Jesse, and Scott. If I think of anymore I will let you know. Those are my favorites though it's just a matter of taste and opinion. Keep us posted on what you decide to name your baby.

First off, Elora is stunning. I don't think she'll undergo any difficulties living with the name Elora. I think I marginally prefer the name Eliora, since it has clear Hebrew roots and in my opinion that's always a cool thing. Ellie can be a cute nickname for Eliora or Elora.

I completely appreciate Nesta but I think the flow of the combination is a little off. Ideally I don't think the middle name should end in -a if the first name does, but that's just my opinion. As far as I'm aware, Nesta is the Welsh version of Agnes, which does not mean peace. It means purity, which is lovely anyway.


You said that you appreciate musical refrences in your name choice. Lucky for you, the Choir of Saint John's Elora is one of the best choirs I've ever heard, so there's your reference.


As for a cool boys name, what do you think of Elias? It seems really handsome to me and it seems like the logical alternative to Elora. If it's a girl, go with Elora, and if it's a boy, go with Elias. : )

I have a son named Jaeden. My second son is going to be named Riley or Rylan. I like uncommon names as well but the middle name is ALWAYS common.... (Jaeden Stephen). But I like Riley for my next child Girl or Boy! Congrats and good luck choosing a name. You may have the baby and decide he/she looks like a different name you did not even have choosen. I had like 2 or 3 names for my son and as soon as he was born I said "Hi Jaeden" It just seemed right!

annabluebell: i do like the name elias. i never thought of naming a kid that, but, to be honest, ive never met anyone named that so its definitely a good choice. for some reason i tend to lean towards names that start with an E/I or L sound. my son is named Ian James. i was going to spell it Ean (because i like E's haha) but the man i named him after spells it with an I.

princess: that is my boss' oldest sons name (jaden) and my friends sons name (jayden). my son was also friends with a girl from school named jaeden. i definitely like that name (they are all super cute kids. im a firm believer that what you name your child will definitely affect the type of person they become and how they look. kind of odd, i know..). i am just totally stuck with picking a boys name!! i dont know why this has to be sooo hard. naming my first son was easy... this one, not so much. which means ill probably end up having a boy since we cant decide on a name and i have an endless supply of little girl clothes if i have a girl and we already have the girl name picked! haha. thats the way the cookie crumbles, i suppose. it would be too convenient to have a little girl this time around =) but, ill be happy no matter what. maybe i could just do it native american style... and not name my child until they have their own personality and prove/show what their name should be. im sure that would go over well.. =P
