Getting Pregnant after ParaGard

Nobody replied...but I had my IUD removed today and my doctor said that healthy couples usually have no problems getting pregnant after paragard. I'm a tad sore...so after that is gone then DH and I will start trying.

Hi lele25 - We're pretty much in the same boat. Late 20's, just got my paragard out on the 13th and we've started "working on it". I'm hoping it doesn't take too long, as I'm sure you are hoping as well. Good luck!

Hi! I am 31. I just had my Paragard IUD removed on Monday June 22. My doctor told me we could concieve immediately. She did say that having your iud removed directly after you period helps to lesson any bleeding and does not disrupt the uterine wall as much. I was under the impression that i would have to wait for my cycle to get back on track (3months or so) but that is not the case. YIPPEE! I am
not a fan of extra bleeding. anyhow i did an online ovulation calendar and figured out my "fertile" days and am pretty excited. We currently have 3 boys ages 11,5,4. None of our other pregnancies were planned so hubby and I are looking forward to this new journey with eyes wide open. Good luck

Well June was a dud...I got my hopes up because I didn't start when I thought I would...but unfortunately AF arrived today.

Well....3 months no luck We aren't stressing about it, but it would be nice if something would happen. My periods have been very irregular lately making it difficult to judge my fertile days. We try to concentrate on days 11-18...and of course any other time the mood strikes:)Has anyone tried the at home fertility tests?

I had the paragard also, I had it taken out august 2010 and havent got pregnant yet, im wondering what are the chances of infertility, I kept having my period so you all are lucky, my period was worse with it than without

Had mine taken out over a year ago. Ive been trying ever since. I think im infertile now? I got pregnant right away. Every time (4 children). Now i cant.

It took me a year to get pregnant (and stay pregnant - there was a miscarriage in there) after the paragard was removed. I had no trouble conceving with my first 2 children. I think the delay was because the copper had built up in my system and was still having an affect. I've seen some things online about that. There is some evidence of it taking longer for some couples to get pregnant after the parafard is removed, although it is possible to get pregnant right away. Copper seems to be related to progesterone levels, and healthy progesterone levels are needed to maintain a pregnancy. If paragard truly didn't affect hormones at all, then no one would start having irregular periods after having it removed - anyway, Good luck - keep trying! I know it is soooo hard every month...

I have two children and had the paraguard removed in 2010 after 10 years. The hubby and I started trying 8 months ago and no luck. My periods are some what regular every month...a few days either early or late. Doctor said as long as i am getting my period monthly its a sign of ovulation and he said to wait a few more months and keep trying because he didnt see a problem. I'm praying he's right...and we will keep trying. It is so very hard every month...we get our hopes up. Good luck to all of you ladies.

Arm53- I think your right. I had a paragard inserted in May 2009 and removed Jan 2012. Before it was inserted my period were really light and sort of irregular, but not by much. After it was inserted I had MUCH heavier periods. I would make jokes that anything that bleed that much for 7 days should be dead by the end of it lol. I had it removed bc I whad started spotting/bleeding all the time, for 2 months straight sometimes! I would only get a couple days in between. The hubby and I took the removal as an opportunity to try for a baby. I have been trying to get pregnant ever since. My periods are regular again, but are heavier then they were before the iud. I have 2 children and I got pregnant with them right away, didn't even have to try! Now I am charting, testing, and getting hopeless. It's been 6 months and my husband did a sperm analysis that came back with flying colors. I did a 21 day blood test and my Progesterone levels were 5.43!! They should be closer to 15! My doctor showed no concern about this and said that it still showed I was ovulating. Who cares if I'm ovulating if I can't get pregnant!? a nurse in his office on the other hand said it was very concerning. I am so angry right now! I was concerned about the scar tissue that might have been built up from the paragard but no one has said if there is any or not.

After finding this thread I will be changing doctors and probably going straight into a fertility specialist. Why would they make such a HORRIBLE thing and tell women it wont effect them?? That when it's removed they could IMMEDIATELY start trying to conceive with NO ISSUES?! That was the whole reason I got it! Should have known there would be a catch and it was "to good to be true" *throws hand in the air*

I had the Paragard IUD from 1998-2008, when it was removed I began bc pills for just under a year but didn't like the hormones affecting me so I got off. Since then we haven't been trying to have a baby but haven't been preventing it either and no pregnancy. I have two teenage daughters that I got pregnant with VERY easily and my husband has a 3 yr old son (long story but DNA proven) so I know he's not the problem. I believe the paragard did some damage somehow that caused infertility in me.

I'd like to share my experience with you. I had my son in April 2008 and a few months later had the paragard IUD put in. I had it for about 3 years and figured that it was time to start trying for another baby. I got it taken out in Sept 2011...got pregnant in November...miscarried I got pregnant again in February 2012...miscarried...again in July...miscarried again and now positive pregnancy test but HCG level only 645. My lmp was 10/22/12, which means my HCG level should be in the 1000's. I'm really sad and discouraged now. I thought that it would take a while to conceive but it didn't;however, having an issue keeping the baby. I'm regreting that I ever considered the IUD!! This has definitely been an emotional roller coaster and I hope/pray that none of you have to endur what I have. Good Luck to those of you trying to conceive. I'm not one to give up so easy and my doctor is going to run a series of test to find possible cause for all of this.
