Q: Getting HIV from an HIV test

I'm not concerned about this at all, but I was rather curious.

Just last week I went to a Planned Parenthood clinic near where I live to get tested. I was tested for HIV with the rapid finger prick and for syphilis through a blood sample being drawn from my arm (as well as a urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia).

Now my question is: what are the chances that I could get infected from the clinic? Meaning, is Planned Parenthood a legitimate and trustworthy place that maintains a clean facility and sterile testing tools? I can't even remember if the woman who took my samples took the stuff out of packaging or not since I was so nervous, it all became a blur.

Like I said, I'm not concerned, just curious. I mean, I have developed a sore throat in the past couple days but that's probably because I was up late for a few nights in a row and didn't get much sleep.

Just curious if anyone had any information. Thanks. (By the way, all tests came back negative.)

I don't think you should worry at all.
The samples are made for one use and that's the principal of every clinic in the world.
The medical personal that work in clinics that offer testing for HIV and STD's, are the ones who are at risk for HIV transmission, too.
So, they are aware of importance of safely taken blood samples.
Interventions to prevent medical transmission of HIV are key components of a comprehensive national strategy to prevent and control HIV/AIDS.
