Help! I am 27 year old 5'5 female and I weigh 162 lbs. I have been working out for about 6 weeks at my local gym. My usual workout consists of a 2 mile walk/jog on the eleptical machine and then upper body workout using a few machines in the gym, and just started using 5lb free weights for my biceps. I try to make sure I work out 3-4 times a week. I dont really skip days on working my upper body (is this bad?) I am actually trying to get in shape for the first time in my life. I havent really changed my eating habits all that much (i really like to eat). My main concern is am I going to be making a difference in my body with the workout I am doing? Or am I going to be totally disappointed in another 6 weeks when I dont see much of a change? Can someone tell me what I need to do different? I would appreciate any input I can get.

Update
I did forget to mention that my goal is to loose weight and to tone muscles, I am not a very small girl so my concern is that I dont want to appear too muscled in my upper body and look too big and not feminine and girly.

I know how you feel I started trying to get in shape (also for the first time in my life) 5 weeks ago and i thought that since I went from being very lazy to very active it would make a big difference but I've come to find that it takes time, work, and perseverance, and altering your diet may not be a bad idea. just take baby steps I gave up alcohol first, then soda, then candy, now fast food and next i'm gunna cut back on carbs just try one or two of these things if you can and keep exercising it'll pay off soon enough and it'll be well worth the wait
