I have a family history of gestational diabetes, and am currently 22 weeks pregnant.
A week and a half ago, I was not feeling well and began testing my blood glucose levels. I had one-hour readings in the 190-200 range, and my OB sent me in to visit with an endocrinologist.
I was surpised that the endocrinologist told me to disregard my one-hour readings, and only test at 2 hours. My two-hour tests are borderline, with a few around 135. I am sure my one-hour tests are still high, and I have quite a bit of my pregnancy to go.
Why do the high readings at one hour not matter? Is that common advice? It seemed to me that it was unhealthy for the baby to be exposed to high glucose levels for any length of time.
I am adopted, and I don't have any biological family members to relay their pregnancy experience with this challenge! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
