My Doctor recently gave me some Pantoprazole to combat what he thought was Gastroesophageal reflux.
I had been coming to him these past two months complaining about sometimes hard, sometimes fast chest palpitations and paresthesic tinglings in my hands and feet while laying down, and more recently bouts of dull chest pain. At first I thought these might be due to anxiety, since the episodes originated around the time I had a brief panic attack at my old job, as well as coinciding with my prescription of Wellbutrin which was starting to make me very irritable.
To counter this, my Doctor took me off the Wellbutrin and onto Lexapro to fight the palpitations and shocks which appeared to be anxiety. It seemed to work at first, but not all the time, and it mostly just knocked me out all day, so he put me back on some Wellbutrin to balance out both effects, but to no avail, so since then I have stopped taking both.
It then dawned on me that these episodes of palpitations, tinglings and chest pains occurred usually after eating a fatty meal and laying down (usually the culprit was something obviously bad, like fast food or pizza). I would lie on my bed, and start to drift off until the palpitations would start rising and awaken me suddenly, at which point my anxiety about the situation probably made it worse. And then the tinglings and chest pain would come over me until I got up and started doing things, and then the palpitations would immediately go away, and eventually the tinglings and pain.
These things only occurred when I laid down, and with my blood pressure and heart rate coming out fine my Doctor decided maybe it was GERD, and so put me on Protonix which I have been on for the past half week or so. I am not sure if it is what he diagnosed, however, since no heartburn, regurgitation or dysphagia is ever involved. But it is always associated with a large meal and laying down, no other situation. I am quite confused, and sometimes very worried at night due to the pains. It seems in some regards the diagnosis of GERD makes sense, but then other times not at all, since I lack so many of the required symptoms.
