so anyways i went in for an std test a few days ago cuz ive never been tested before and cuz i had a bump and they told me it was most likely genital warts or irritation from shaving but i had the bump for a month so obviously its not irritation...so any ways i was wondering how accurate is a visual test for genitals...and how are some ways i can prevent my bf from from getting it ..hes been understanding..but i also feel like sometimes im the plague and how do you deal with just having genital warts in general cuz ever since i found out ive been depressed and angry and most of all dirty and ashamed of it...my bf keeps reassuring me but he has no idea what its like finding out that you have an std

Extremely eHealthy
Genital warts, can appear as a multiple growths, cluster of growths or as a single lesion.
The visual examination, often, is enough to determine the diagnosis of genital warts.
Sometimes, a biopsy of the growth is performed to confirm the diagnosis and to determine the strain of the HPV.
You shouldn't be ashamed since this condition is the most prevalent STD.
Also, it is important to know that you may have been infected for a long period like several years before getting the symptoms.
So, not having the growths, doesn't exclude HPV infection in your boyfriend.
He may even transmitted this infection to you, since the asymptomatic infection can be present for years.
It is a good idea for him to get checked, too, even he doesn't have the growth.
HPV infection can be treated (the growths), but, not cured.
Using protection during all forms of sex (including oral sex, since genital warts can be transmitted to the mouth and throat) is important (sometimes infection can be transmitted, even the protection is used, because the viral particles can affect the skin that can't be covered).

Best wishes!
