About 2 year ago I started dating my boyfriend. We have had unprotected sex since I met him. He had had 2 girls in his past and both were pretty promiscuous! Anyways, about four months of dating we noticed he had this small little bump on the shaft of his penis. We thought it was an ingrown hair since he gets those all the time. Well.... a few days ago he broke out. We went to the doctor and they said he had genital warts. Since I have had 2 pap smear since I have been with him ALL of them have come out clean! They told my boyfriend that I needed a pap smear to see if I had these warts too. I went to the doc and they would not give me a pap because my last one was 6 months ago. They are going to give me the Gardasil shot however! As we know it only protects against (6,11,16,1Cool. What if my boyfriend doesn't have these types? I've contacted both my boyfriends ex girlfriends to see if they had any abnormal paps and if they did have the virus I was wondering what type blah... blah.. blah... blah.... I don't get it? Both of them said they don't have genital warts. All of there paps have been clear! They're paps are clean... mine are clear yet... my boyfriend has genital warts. I know for a fact I never gave them to him cus I was a virgin when I met him. Is this even possible? Can all 3 of us be clear without genital warts yet he has it? I don't understand how this is possible? Perhaps someone is fibbing? Can anyone tell me any info on how all of us can be clear and yet my boyfriend not?

Thanks for all your input!

ok i have genital warts and my boyfriend doesnt. we have been together for five months and have unprotected sex, and so far he has no break outs. your boyfriends exs could have hpv and not even know it..or they could be to shy to tell you if they have it or not...i dont know what to tell you but it could be possible that after having to much unprotected sex one of you contracted it. Im just now showing the warts after five months of possibley contracting hpv. for your secound question i dont think there is a test to show it. you can sometimes know how by the symptoms. two types of hpv are cancer types. the other two just bring on genital warts and could never cause cancer.

i hope everything works out

Hi, my wife of 12 years contracted gw from a previous relationship. She carries the virus and had two outbreaks (Visible warts). We've had it treated and we have no other problems. Remember that you only get an outbreak when your immune system is low, like when you are under stress or when you are ill with cold or flue or something for extended periods of time. It is thus all controlled by your immune system and both those girls you talk about probably both have the virus but do not get any visible or testable warts because their immune systems are strong enough to cope with it.
