Q: Genital Warts & latency period of HPV

Could someone please give me the answer to how long the latency period is between contracting the HPV strain that causes GW, and that actual appearance of the warts? I have been with my husband for 12 years and, after being diagnosed with GW last week, I am questioning whether he may have inadvertently "given" this to me. I cannot find anything specific in my extensive internet research, other than that HPV can remain dormant for "months and even years" before an symptoms/warts appear. Please help me find the answer to this question! Thanks in advance.

If the internet doesn't have anything more accurate than "months or years" then unfortunately, there's nothing else to say. It's completely possible he had HPV before you got married.
