Q: Genital Herpes and cleaning

HI,

I've been diagnosed with genital herpes, and in addition to the discomfort of the cold sores and itching...I've also noticed a smell. I suspect it might be because I'm not cleaning the area (the anus) correctly...is there a proper way to clean it with out spreading the virus to other parts of my body.
