My boyfriend needs removal of his wisdom tooth which has had a root canal. He has consulted an oral surgeon. The surgeon advised him to go under general anesthesia for tooth removal as it may be more difficult to removal the wisdom tooth since he has had a root canal done on it. Does anyone know why that make the extraction more difficult? Also, they told him that his tooth is decayed/infected but not to the point that he needs antibiotics? This does not make sense to me. They dentist and his staff told my boyfriend that if he he does not become numb w/ local that the procedure will have to be stopped and he will be sent home w/ antibiotics and will have to return and have procedure completed w/ general anesthesia. I feel they may be trying to push him toward local to either save money, time, etc. He is contemplating what to do general costs $300-400 and local is free. Any advise as to whether local would be okay? Thanks
