I was born with Biliary Atresia and had the Kasai procedure done when I was a baby, at which time my malfunctioning gallbladder was removed. My mother did not think of telling me this for nearly 2 decades. I have since had a liver transplant and am more than a decade post-op.

Now, I've got questions.

Upon reading other forums and talking to other patients, I find that I don't have any of the intestinal symptoms other people have reported after gallbladder removal - then again I don't have any frame of reference for before and after.

My understanding is that without the gallbladder to store bile, it merely drips down into the small intestine with or without food with which to mix, and that this can lead to colon cancer. This is a big concern for me since colon cancer is the most genetically-inclined tumor and it is on both sides of the family.

1. This many years later is altering my diet that important, esp. when I'm asymptomatic?
2. Is there any kind of medicine or herbal stuff I can take to lessen the likelihood of colon cancer?
3. Are weight-loss attempts to be handled differently due to the difference in digestion?
4. Does the previous disease of Biliary Atresia play a role in any of this?
5. Also, does this affect how often I should eat or how much?

Better question: Did any of that make any sense?
