I just had my gallbladder out on Thursday Morning the 23rd... after surgery they had problems keeping my oxygen levels stabalized...but finally got them in the right direction. I was sent home on the same pain medication I was taking before surgery to control the gall bladder attacks. The first night wasn't bad...I felt pretty good actually..but friday went downhill and I hurt most the day... yesterday was worse than friday and spent most my time in bed and hurting. I did venture out briefly yesterday to move a little bit and after walking for just a few minutes i was having sharp pains in my back, shoulder and around the incisions and was very very tired...so had to sit down.
I woke up this morning hurting still pretty badly.... I've called my doctor twice this weekend explaining that the pain medications don't seem to be strong enough for my pain as I am unable to sleep, I can't get comfy long enough to sleep, it hurts when moving around, I am very very sore especially at the incision right under the chest area. I feel nauseous and have no energy. First time the told me to get gas x and take 2 norco's first 4 hours than on 4th hour take one more for pain. Nothing really changed...so they said take 2 norco's every 5 hours and 400mb ibuprofen every 4 hours. that helps, but, still hurts.
Seems like they would be able to give me a pain med that will make me comfy and allow me to sleep??? I know there is still going to be discomfort even with pain medications, but, I don't think I should be hurting this bad with them. I also don't think they should've prescribed the same pain meds I was taking weeks before surgery to control attack pain for my after surgery pain..just doesn't seem effective.
Overall, I felt better the evening after surgery then I do now...I have zero energy.....hurting more than I was....and my neck and back are hurting. I am passing gas, habving bowel movements and all that good stuff...and I am holding down basic foods as well..so that part is going well..just the pain is really bad, swollen face and stomach, sore.... hurts to move around... and very very fatigue and weak.
The painkillers from the operation take 12-24 hours to wear off and you feel pretty good for that time, but it isn't unusual to feel rough for several days afterwards, It should get generally better from now on, and soon over the counter painkillers will be able to make you comfortable. Your energy levels will increase towards the end of the first week and those nasty shoulder and neck pains will go away. You may get twinges from the small wounds for a week or two and stitch-like pains from the gallbladder site for some time longer.
