Q: gall bladder pain but normal tests

Since Jan. 18 I have been having pain in my upper right stomach that radiates to my right back area. The pain is just under my ribs. It feels like there is a fist inside of me constricting something. The pain is worse after I eat and at night. I have been to the ER, my gastro doctor, and the surgeon. I've had an ultrasound, CT scan, HIDA scan, and blood work. In October, I had an upper endoscopy. All of the tests were negative for gallstones and disease. But when I had the HIDA scan, it caused so much pain that it took my breath away. I have been tested for H-Pylori...negative. The surgeon says that he cannot help me surgically and that it is acid reflux. My gastro doctor says it is not acid reflux and there is nothing more he can do for me. I'm tired of being in pain and treated like a human pingpong ball. My gastro doctor says that sometimes all the tests for gallbladder disease are negative but it is the gallbladder. Any suggestions on further tests or where I should turn now?

Negative tests do not always mean no disease
gallbladder disease without stones can cause pain and the imaging and blood work may all be negative, although you may see an increase in the liver enzymes. The back pain and upper right quadrant pain are certainly suggestive of there being a problem with the gallbladder. I would recommend you seek a second opinion from a different surgeon.
