Further joint replacement
Posted: 05-21-08 10:57am

Hi,

I have had 6 surgeries to date including bilateral Lorenz joint replacements. My right joint has never really worked (surgery was May 2007) and is due to be replaced again in the next few months. Has anyone had a replacement joint that has had to be done a second time round?

Best Wishes
Samara

Samara,
I'm sorry to read that you are having to go thru all of this mess even more. I occasionally read multiple-surgery TMJ people postings - some are doing okay and some not. One lady I know had several surgeries over the years and just went she thought she hit bottom, she found a dentist who helped her with a modified bite splint especially made for her. She has no joints to speak of but she has done very well since. I wish I knew the answer why some people are helped and others aren't. This is just a personal thought, but it almost seems like finding the "perfect" specialist who is dedicated to helping me (you), the patient, personally, might be the answer.

With me, I don't have a left joint at all (no disc and condyle severely broken down) and the right one is following closely because of DJD, but if I keep my body reasonably calm and be careful what I eat, talk less, watch posture, etc., AND take various medications, I do pretty good. I have only God to thank for this blessing. I have wondered if I might need to have surgery because of the DJD, but I'm going to do all I can to NOT do it.

Do they know why the right joint never worked? Have you been going thru physical training or the like? My neck and shoulders have been tight lately, so I'm going to go thru a few weeks of PT to break up the muscle knots and tension. I should be good for a year or so after that.

Please take care Samara. I will step up my prayers for you.
God bless you,
Carol
