Hi, everyone. Smile

I have had a problem with my bladder since the end of August. I went to the doctors and they found I had an infection and gave me antibiotics and it cleared it up but the symptoms didn't improve.

I have an 'urge'/full bladder feeling without having to rush to the toilet as I don't leak. I also have frequency. I am passing more than I am drinking which is concerning me as I am worried it's something wrong with my kidneys. I also get disturbed at night as I have to wake up about 4-5 times a night to go to the toilet.

I don't know what is going on with my bladder as the doctors I have seen and urogynaecologist said that they don't know what is wrong and have ordered a urodynamics tests even though I don't have a problem with leaking.

I would just like to ask a few questions...

What would this urodynamics tests involve if it's not for incontinence/leaking but for frequency and 'urge'/full bladder sensation?

Has anyone found a particular medicine effective for their urinary frequency and 'urge'/full bladder sensations without leaking?

Thanks for any help and advcie you can give. Smile

First of all, are you keeping a urination diary? It will help in the diagnostic process. Keep a diary of how much fluid you drink, how often you urinate, and urine output. Record your body weight at the same times and on the same scale daily.

Diagnostic tests that may be performed include:

* Blood urea nitrogen
* Serum creatinine or creatinine clearance
* Fluid deprivation
* Osmolality
* Serum electrolytes
* Urinalysis
* Urine concentration
* Urine culture

IT's possible that the diagnostic test that the urogynaecologist has ordered include all of the factors. But speak up! You have the right to know...so ask her yourself. Smile

Hi, rooted. Smile

I did keep a diary but it seems that the doctors and urogynaecologist isn't interested in this as they never asked but I have been doing one on and off to see if there's even any slight difference when I feel like my symptoms are worse.

The doctors did do blood tests and urine samples but I'm not entirely sure what they were for or whether they were for the above diagnostic tests that you have listed.

The urodynamics isn't a blood test or urine sample. It's where they stick catheters into my bladder and other parts of my abdominal cavities (rectum, vagina, etc) and analyse stuff but I am still not sure why they have ordered it for as I'm not incontinent just got frequency and 'urge'/full bladder sensations constantly.

I can't even get hold of my urogynaecologist so unfortunately I can't even ask any of these questions. Though I did feel that he didn't really say totally what this urodynamics tests involved and what he was actually looking for. He was in too much of a rush to get out of his office and leave to go to wherever he had to go.

Thanks for your advice, rooted. Smile

Hi DS, they might be testing for Irritable Bowel syndrome, which can cause symptoms very similar to OB or kidney disorders. Some people with IBS Also some conditions of the uterus can cause problems with the urinary tract, so it could be that they are testing for these.

I suggest that when you go, ask them to tell you exactly what it is they are testing for. You are his patient, he should take the time to make sure you are comfortable with what the test will require and that you know what they are testing for.

Hi, GreyWolf. Smile

I didn't know that IBS could cause similar symptoms to OB.

I will talk to the two nurses that are doing it as where I am having urodynamics nurses actually do the procedure and tests and then pass the results on to the Consultant Urogynaecologist that I am seeing. I have seen that uroligists usually perform this sort of test but for some reason the hospital I'm going to has nurses that do it. I hope they are good at it as it sounds invasive as they are actually sticking things into my body. After the awful experience I had with that Neurologist I'm kind of finding it incredibly hard now to trust these sort of people messing with my body. Though I've got no choice if I want to find out what is wrong with my bladder/surrounding area.

Thanks for your advice, GreyWolf, I appreciate it. Smile

You are welcome. Smile

Yes, IBS can cause symptoms of Overactive Bladder.

If you are at all confused, you have every right to know exactly what they will do, and exactly what they are testing for. It is your body, they cannot with-hold any information from you.

I understand, you've had a bad experience, it's only natural that you feel nervous. I'm sure that they know what they are doing but bladder problems can be quite personal and private it's understandable that you feel like that. You'll be fine I'm sure, try not to worry too much.
Just explain to the nurse that you had a bad experience before, they are bound to understand your concerns and will be sympathetic.

And no problem, any time, thanks for your support too, it's good to have someone to talk to, who is going through the same thing!
I might have to have urodynamics testing, I'm very embarrassed about this so I'm very nervous about seeing the urologist also, but it's the only way I can get this sorted.

Hi, GreyWolf. Smile

I may ask my GP when I go to see him about IBS as he probably will be able to test for that if he thinks it could be that but I'm not sure how he'll test for it.

I too feel having these tests are the only way we will get our problems sorted. I'm apprehensive but I'll just have to try my best to relax when I go though it'll be hard as I'm scared of the tests hurting.

It's been a pleasure talking to you and I've learnt a lot from your posts which I am very grateful for. I too have really appreciated having someone to talk to who is going through the same thing.

Good luck with everything and hopefully we'll both find some sort of answers to our problems from the tests we have.

I'll keep you posted on any outcomes in the meantime. Smile
