Q: From hyperthyroidism to Hypothyroidism

3 months ago, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. My TSH level was low, T3 and FT4 was high, my doctor prescribed me with thyrozol by mercks 20 mg a day. After 3 months, all my hyperthyroidism symptoms are all gone, but then my recent blood test shows that my TSH level is high (15 iu/ml), T3 normal and FT4 low close to normal. Is this a sign that the thyrozol dose is too much??Am I now hypothyroidism?

And now about my baby, she's 7 months old now, when she was born we run the blood test and her TSH level is normal. Should we take the FT4 test to make sure that she's not hypothyroidism?

Any help will be much appreciated

Keep Testing
It could be that the TSH level is high, becuase your body is over producing the TSH to get the same amount of thyroid hormone in your body. If the TSH gets increasingly higher over time, you might want to consider, that your FT4 and FT3 are too low, which will give you hypothyroidism type of symptoms becuase your body needs a certain amount of the hormone to function properly. Keep talking to your doctor about your concerns, and always keep them aprised of a change in symptoms.

I myself, am hypo and my mother is hyper, and i have heard from many people on this forum and others that it has a tendancy to run in families, especially girls, though not at all limited to them. You might consider getting the FT4 and FT3 test just to be safe, becuase not all thyroid disorders show in TSH levels. What will be affecting her body will be the level of hormone in her body. You said that before you started the meds you had a low TSH level and high T3 and T4. That could mean that if she inherited your genes, its possible that she might still have the problem, but it doesn't show on that particular test. As long as you test her every six months to a year, you can rest easy and keep up to date on her status.

Good luck!
