hi a friend came to my house last week. he may have hiv. he drank water from a cup and left a little in it. my mother took the cup and started washing it using tap water. later I came to know that my mother had a fresh cut on her hand while she was washing the cup. this is really worrying me as that person had cuts in his mouth. what should I do? if it was me I could have got tested but I do not want to worry my mother if it is just anxiety

HIV dies 30 seconds to a minute after it leaves the body. There is nothing for you to do.

Your mother does not have HIV so please don't worry! I wonder what you mean by 'cuts in his mouth' though. He might have herpes zoster (cold sores) and they can be infectious but again I wouldn't worry unduly about it unless either you or your mother ha a compromised immune system.
