Q: fresh cut from dentist's finger

Hi,

I have braces for my teeth. Yesterday, I went to my dentist for some routine treatement.

The braces have a wire that goes along the entire periphery of my upper teeth.
The rear edges of the wire were somewhat protruding. My dentist asked me if those edges were poking or not and did they hurt. I said that there did poke and also hurt the inner lining of my mouth.

She ,therefore, started feeling the edges with her index finger to see how much protruding they were and how sharp they were. She was wearing gloves.
She was pressing against the protruding end of the wire with her index finger (which was gloved). While removing her finger from my mouth her glove got stuck in the wire edge.

This means that the wire edge had penetrated the glove. I do not know if it had also penetrated her finger or not.
The glove got stuck and slightly came off her hand. She pulled it back and continued with her work. She operated on me for some time during which the wire edge may have come in contact with the bruised inner lining of my mouth.
In the end she took a cutter and then cut the protruding edge of the wire. The cut portion of the wire landed somewhere in my mouth which she later removed.

Later when I came home, I tried seeing how sharp the brace wire was. I noticed that with some force the wire edge is able to pierce your finger. It is like a staple pin.

I am worried that could the wire edge be infected with her blood and then could get into my mouth. Since I have braces and since the wire edge was poking there are a few cuts and bruises along the inner lining of my mouth.
Should I worry about this ?

Also the wire edge after hurting the dentist could have directly hurt the inner lining of my mouth(which is not that healthy and already contains a few cuts) Would this pose a risk?
Should I get tested ?

Sorry for being so annoying. I am genuinely worried
Sorry for any trouble caused.

I don't think you should be worried. If you are worried, wait 3 months from the point of infection and get a blood test. I don't think the dentist cut her finger at least not in the way that explain it. Good writer..

Take it easy

Hi Muthnoi,
Thanks a whole lot for your reply.
Thing is, I do not know whether I should be worried or not ? and this is what is troubling me. I would not want to test if this was not a risk but I have to first convince myself in that case.
That is why I have come to this place for help.
Thanks again.
