Q: Frequent urination - prostate ?

I've been needing to urinate far more than ever before over the past week and a half. I went to the doctor earlier in the week and had a quick urine test that didn't show anything up. The doctor gave me anti-biotics anyway as he felt it was probably a urine infection.

I've felt kind of like a full bladder all the time and a bit bruised after i've been - but also i've started having trouble starting to urinate when standing up - if i stand there for longer than usual say 30 seconds I am able to get a dribble then it starts as normal - if I sit down I am able to go straight away with no problem.

I'm wondering if this can still be urine infection - obviously I've been worried about an enlarged or cancer problem in my prostate even though I'm only 31.

Was this your family doctor or a urologist that you saw? If a family doctor then I would strongly suggest a visit to a good urologist.

And prescribing antibiotics for a possible infection when nothing shows on the test concerns me. As taking antibiotics when there is no sign of an infection...your body can build up a resistence to antibiotics so when you truly need this medication it may not work.

Generally when there is a bladder or kidney infection it will show in the urinalysis...

it was a doctor I saw while I was on holiday last week as the problem was getting worse. Bizarre thing is that times during the day I don't feel the need to pee at all it kind of feels normal - I guess even at my age it can be my prostate i guess i'm actually just hoping that it is a urine infection.

The doctor I'm sure just used a quick test to check the urine and said it seemed ok.
