Q: Frequent heart palpitations

Hello. I am 13 years old and I am having frequent heart palpitations. Someimes, my heart stops, then an "hard" beat comes right after it. IN average I have around15 per week. The maximum that i've had was 12 in one day, which was yesterday.

Is this normal Question I go to a cardilogist once a year for a heart murmur. Last time I wnet, he said that my ekg showed that my heart was beatting like an enlarged heart but when he did the echo, nothing came up. Thanx

Cardiologists can best diagnose a heart condition when it's happening, so I suggest that you seek an opinion soon. You can also learn more about heart issues from the patient center of the American Heart Association:

Well, you don't need to wait that long, either. If you suspect something is going on and experience more than a few a day, I think that you need to seek medical attention. Can you access your family doctor or primary physician easily? Do you have another doctor you can go to quickly and easily?

well, not reallyy. and my parents don't have the time. I've been having them for a long time(only they're getting more frequent), and i guess waiting three months isn't that long.

I have the same problem. I have not been to the heart doctor yet, but have been living with this off and on since I was 12 years old. Im 33 now. It use to be just once in a blue moon that my heart rate would shoot up to 200 beats pm. But then it disappeared for years. I smoked and partied all through my 20's with no problems. But just recently in the past few years I quit drinking and smoking. I work out regular and eat very healthy. I should be doing the best in my life, health wise, but Im not. My heart now does all different things. Mostly it skips beats. And Ill have to cough or catch my breath because it scares me. Im consttantly feeling for my pulse my friends make fun of me. I will occasionally have an episode and all of a suden my heart rate will jump sky high again, and I can usually bring it down with in 10 minutes or so just by relaxing and taking deep breaths. But I am mostly concerned by the skips. Because it will just happen out of nowhere. I am tired alot, and my blood pressure is very low. Over the past year though I have found that when I start to feel dizzy I just eat something salty and I feel fine. Also, something that has helped with my skips is taking Omega 3 fatty acid pills. They have helped soo much. But I still have the problems no matter what. I am scared to get on medication because Ive heard that once you do you cant get off it. Anyone out there with some advice? Or does anyone know what I have?

ciaowend, I am sorry for your problems. You said that what you're experienceing are suddenly very rapid heart rate? But mine's aren't like that. They're just extra beats or skips. As we all know, rapid heart rate is tachycardia, so I'm really sorry you're having tachycardia all of a sudden and I hope you find the answer soon.

I have been dealing with palpitations since I was 10. I've never told my cardiologist, but I will this time, and see what he does.

Thanks for the response Disney girl Smile

I also have the skipped beats. The rapid heart beat is like once every year or 5. It just depends. So let me know what your condition is. Or if I get to the heart doctor before you, i'll keep you posted. Take care. By the way...You should start taking Omega 3 pills. They are very good for your health in general, but mainly your heart. They have helped so much with the skipping problem.
