I have been on NuvaRing for about 3 years off and on. I generally use it for 4 weeks then remove and insert a new on. So I don't have a regular cycle. The last few months I have lost track of when I am supposed to insert a new one and I have been putting them in late. My last few months according to my presciption pick up info I refilled on the following dates: 9/19/09, 10/18/09, 12/14/09... I still have the 12/14/09 ring inserted and I haven't started my period and I have several pregnancy symptoms. Could I be pregnant?

TwainnTenisha, whenever you do not use hormonal birth control regularly, you stand the chance of getting pregnant. With the ring, the hormones can also last longer than advertised. They 'guarantee' 3 weeks worth of hormones but as you have seen, keeping it in affects your cycles meaning that there are still hormones left in it after 21 days.

So your period being absent can just be because of that, but it can also mean you are pregnant. Take a pregnancy test to make sure.

If you are not pregnant, take a huge red marker and circle every 28 days on your calendar to make sure you remember when to put a new one in - unless you want to become pregnant.

Best of luck!

Thank you... I took a pregnancy test...

Result: PREGNANT!

I scheduled a doctors appointment just to confirm but since those test are 99.9% accurate I guess i should start investing in Pampers and Johnson & Johnson.

Thanks... Now I have run into a whole new issue... How far along am I? I called to make my first pre-natal visit and apparently in order to determine how far along I am I need to know when my last menstral cycle started. Well, because of the way I take my birthcontrol I haven't had a period in several months. I have a very small gut and I can still suck that in for all of 1.25 seconds. So i guess I can't be that far but how can I know at least a guestimation of how far along I am?

They can determine that with the first scan. 'I don't know' is a perfectly good answer to the LMP question. Many women with irregular periods or birth control failures cannot give an answer.

Looking at your dates, did you bleed after your Oct 18 ring? What made you put in a new ring on Dec 14?

They do an ultrasound scan to determine if the baby is ok. They will also give you an accurate (+- 3 days) gestational age and due date.
