I am in Canada and I have not heard of this happening (doctors refusing to do paps). I also cannot find a credible, unbiased source for this claim. I'm very skeptical. IF this were happening, the doctor(s) should be reported to their governing body and the governing body would be taking action.

A couple other things:

1. The article starts out claiming that doctors (multiple) are refusing to do paps, but only gives the example of one.

2. The article does not name the doctor it's alleging is refusing to do paps.

Well, now that a calm and polite request for verification has been given, I am sure Snug will do her best to validate her sources.

It makes a difference to know what the alleged "reason" is. So far, I've seen absolutely nothing to indicate why anyone would object to doing a pap smear. It simply makes no sense to me to try to tie it to a prolife position.

Refusing to do pap smears is not a pro-life position. It's an anti-woman position, just like refusing to dispense birth control and denying women abortion rights.



As far as the source of this particular story goes, as stated in the blog entry, it was from an award-winning essay about choice. So I'll just have to track down the original essay, and then we can all put the information in context for ourselves. But I'm more inclined to believe it than I am, say, those fantastical tales about women who changed their mind, and the doctor and his staff wrestled them down and performed an abortion anyway.

Neither is bombing clinics and killing doctors... yet pro-lifers do that, too.

Now that I think of it, I haven't seen nor heard of a prochoicer bombing "crisis pregnancy" centers or shooting prolife protesters. Interesting how the most violent ones claim to be "prolife".

Oh yeah, I don't consider tearing off someone's "prolife" bumper sticker or shouting in the faces of creepy old men taking pictures of women trying to get health care "violence", any more than the pro-slavery people consider harassment of women "violence". The interesting thing is that certain "prolifers" will count prochoice self-defence and retaliation as "violence" yet cheer outright homicide and terrorist attacks as well as blatant violation of privacy as "Justice".

Make no mistake, they want all the rights to be violent and personally disruptive, but if a prochoicer so much as glares at them it's suddenly a death threat. I've seen some really ugly people with a load of really fat women AND MEN spewing out the mouth having the nerve to call anyone that stands up for women's choice as fat, ugly and evil...however I have never seen as many out-of-shape prochoicers as I've seen prolifers. Maybe the women can't take care of themselves because they're spewing babies out every year and the men are so full of themselves they think all it takes to be a father is to shoot sperm. We could all go into horrible generalizations.

Or taking photographs of strange women entering clinics for surgery...

I do agree with your view that most violence in these confrontations is exhibited by the prolife supporters. Violence and prolife, sort of an oxymoron really.

I think prochoice supporters tend to be more rational about women's rights, while religion probably plays a large part in the prolife stance. There seems to be much more hatred on the prolife side towards prochoice in general and women in particular.

You are right. Women's bodies are their own and they should be in control of it. I do understand your frustration with the constant barrage of prolife drivel, but, I don't think I'll show my displeasure quite as graphically as you did. Haha

But at least that has a clear goal that is related to saving babies.... this does not.

Yes. Bombing clinics = clear way to save babies. Not sure how, though.
