Q: Forced to carry wanted pregnancy
asked by: diamondsz on January 16th, 2009
Extremely eHealthy
I was talking to my mom a few week ago about a friend of hers, "No name" found out that her unborn child had died at 32 weeks and was forced to carry the pregnancy until she went into labor naturally. Now I know this is an abortion debate but I found this rather disturbing and am wondering why they didn't induce her, since it could have cause a really bad infection.

Has anyone else heard of this? Just looking for some input here...

Since the so called "partial birth abortion" law went into effect and becuase of the way the law was written some Doctors are not sure exactly what is prohibited or simply not willing to take the risks of inducing an abortion and rather wait until the woman misscarries (spontaneous abortion) on her own.

This law was pushed through to outlaw a procedure rarly ever used except in extreme emergencies. It was originally written to be so vague as to be interpreted to outlaw all abortions past the first trimester (thankfully the language was changed to some degree) it was a back door attempt to outlaw abortion. Unfortunately its real impact will be in placing some women in greater danger in cases such as the one you mentioned and in cases of extreme danger tot he woman where minutes may count and this law causes care givers to err on the side of caution.
