Foot Pain when sick, They feel bruised on the top

Typically I never have any foot pain. I'm a 53 year old woman, that has had a desk job for the last four years, but prior to that, I always worked on my feet. I have noticed, in the last 2 years,right before I get sick, my feet start to hurt, and they hurt really bad. They feel bruised on the top of the foot and swollen? Just curious, this seems kind of strange to me.
