Within a few minutes of beginning to eat, A feeling comes over me & the food stops in my throat & I begin to choke. It doesn't happen often & comes unexpectedly. I run to vomit & it's acid type saliva. The sensation of choking doesn't stop until the most of the food comes out, during which air is stuck as well. No certain foods appear to set it off. Today,in a restaurant,it happened. We left,I had to stop every few miles until it all came up. I felt weak afterwards but otherwise ok. Any ideas as to what may be causing this & what type of doctor to see about it?

Hey did you ever hear anything about what this could be? Sorry I dont have any answers, but my Grandpa does the EXACT same thing and I am trying to help him diagnose it. Doctors keep saying there is nothing wrong, although the scenario that you described above happens quite frequently.

My husband suffered through this for a long time before he developed a cough that no matter what I gave him, never treated the symptoms. FINALLY I got him to go to the doctor. He has acid reflux. He's had it most likely all his life. Because of the damage, his esophaegus had irritation and swelling that would cause larger than normal pieces of food become 'stuck' and he would feel like he was choking/vomiting. He saw our family practioner but I'm sure a gastroenterologist might be able to rule out something more serious. Hope this helps and you get some relief!
