My mother-aged 65y has developed fluid in Right Lung with severe stomach pain. The fluid has been drain out for 3times. First time-2.5lts, second time-1.4ltrs & third time-600ml. The entire fluid tests and other tests are normal. All blood, sugar pressures are normal.

Doctors say still fluid is there in her R.lung. She has a severe pain in stomach and frequently goes for boul. This pain is from last 2 month.

Doctors have started TB treatment whereas there are no TB germs. She does not like to eat anything. Meanwhile she got DVT in left limb, which has been treated by heparin medicine through injection, which she has now recovered.

We have not find any clue of the disease she got. As she is not taking proper food she has become very weak.

With Regards

So the doctors don't have any idea what she has?

The stomach pain could be refereed pain from her lungs or a symptom in itself. Does she have pain anywhere else? I'm sure she's had chest x-rays. Have they taken a lung biopsy? You said the tests on the fluid were normal? You also said she had a TB test that was negative? What about pneumonia? Did the x-ray show anything like that?

Does she have any heart problems? That can sometimes cause pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs). Has her heart been tested? Pneumonia can also be a cause. There are other causes that are probably less likely: exposure to toxins, kidney disease (have her kidneys been tested?), adverse drug reactions, trauma, and high altitudes.

According to a very respected medical clinic website in the U.S. (which I cannot name because I'd be advertising), most of the time this can be cleared up if the underlying condition is found and treated. I'll message you with the web address so you can double check this stuff with her doctor.

You said she isn't eating. Is that due to lack of appetite or does eating make her sick? Have you tried giving her those liquid meals (not the weight loss ones, the ones for seniors)?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what DTV is and when I search for it, all I get are converter box results. Stupid FCC.

How many doctors has she seen? If you can't get any answers out of this one, maybe a second opinion would be best. Has she seen a lung specialist?

I really hope you find what's wrong with your mother. This must be so scary and frustrating that they can't figure it out. Do some research into the topic and don't be afraid to ask the doctor questions. Make them answer them. Don't let them give up.

Good luck. Please write back with any further developments.

Thank you for your reply.

I am from India.

According to your queries X-rays did not show any such pneumonia. No pneumonia symptoms. She has a loss of appetite. She takes liquid & semi-liquid meals, but very little. Where else the medicine she’s taking are more than her food. Doctors say that the loss of appetite is due to fluid deposited in lung. She is treated under chest/lung specialist.

She had chest x-rays but no test for lungs biopsy. Her kidney & heart are not been tested.
She had no heart problem. No Asthma. She had not gone through any other heart treatment or surgery.

DVT means -deep vein thrombosis (blockage in vein), which was on her left leg. The leg from the joint was swollen and was having some pain. But doctor gave her heparin injection which reduces the pain and swollen now.

Her severe stomach pain and re-occurrence of fluid in lungs had made her disturb. Whenever she gets the pain in her stomach she has to go for bowel, sometime 7/8 times a day & its daily basis. Her stool test was normal. Earlier some kind of jelly type substance use to come out in her bowel. Now it has been slightly checked. But the pain in stomach has not been solved. Doctor says that the problem of stomach pain is due to fluid deposited in lung. She has become very weak. Her weight has drop from 65kgs to 49kgs. High doses of TB medicines and fluid in lung are may be the causes.

Is there any more info that you would like to know?

She was suffering from Ostrio-Arthritis, joint pain in her both knees since last 15years. So earlier doctor (Orthopedic) has suggested her to reduce weight of her body. So she started dieting from Nov 15, 2008 to Jan 2009. She was taking boiled vegetables, fish and fruits in her dieting. During that time she used to take some Homeopathy medicine like (Alfalfa mother tincture & Ginseng mother tincture Doses: 10drops each trice a day) for her severe pain in knees.

Is these may be the cause of severe pain in stomach or anything related to fluid in lung.

CT scan
Dear Puchadip,
I was trying to google to find a sollution for the same reasons you are looking for. My mother, Asian, 62 years old non-smoker has the same symptoms. She has fluids (approx. 3ltrs) in the right side of the lung and it is so much that some of her organs have been slightly pushed. Last week she had 900cc removed, this week she will get a drain to relieve her more.
She has severe stomach ache which keeps her up at night and sleeping throughout the rest of the day due to pain nausea and exhaustion. She had the stomach ache before. This lasted 3 weeks. They found 3 ulcers in her stomach so she had to have Pantazol once a day. She takes very strong medications, which may have caused the ulcers. Her stomach ache never really went away. We are also desperate to know how we can help her soothe the stomach ache.
The combination of the presence of fluids in her right lung and ulcers in her stomach may cause the pain.

The reason why I am telling you all this is because she was diagnosed with lungcancer in June 2008.
Before the diagnosis she also had X-rays, which did not show anything. So the doctors thought she had a rib dislocation. But months later, CT scans showed much more...

Your mother had X-rays taken. Please try to arrange to have CT scans taken of her body. This way you can be more sure. Furthermore did your mother have a gastroscopy/colonoscopy? This way the doctors can check the lining of her stomach and colon.

Hope you will/or have already found the solution and that your mother feels much better.

Kind regards,
Stephanie
