My boyfriend has a painful, red bump which has grown within the past week in his ear. It appears to be on the outer ear canal, visible when looking into ear. It is fluid filled and he says it goes down when he takes a shower and lets the hot water hit it. But then it almost seems to "fill up" again afterwards.
He originally thought it was a pimple, I can guarantee it is NOT. He tried puncturing it with a clean sterile needle and it was extremely painful, it bled and some puss came out as well and shrank a little but is still large and painful.
Is this something serious, does he need to go to the doctor, has anyone else seen anything like this? I've searched the internet and couldn't find anything so if anyone can help, PLEASE it would be so appreciated.
First things first PLEASE DO NOT punture the growth with anything you can never say what will happened next. I suggest for your boyfriend to go to an ENT specialist (Ear, Nose and Throat) to have it check. Good luck - Hart74
Follow up on the ear bump.... it turns out that it was actually a Sebaceous cyst, two small ones to be exact. The doctor in the ER said that in time they will burst on their own they are extremely painful and can eventually lead, if not taken care of, to the jaw line and create interior infections there. So she punctured the bubble and with sterile q-tips pretty much squeezed the fluid and cyst out of the ear...
Wanted to get the word out in case anyone else may have a similiar situation, I know it would have helped us out if someone else had the same problem....
I have the EXACT same thing going on- guessing it's the same thing, so if it doesn't go down in the next week (punctured with sterile needle today, been putting witch hazel on it all week) I'll get it professionally popped. Thanks for posting the follow up!
No problem! I figured if anyone else had the problem, they would want to know what was going on.
You may actually need someone to help you because if it is a cyst, you may need it to be "pushed" out... or what I would say, instead of just someone, I'd say a doctor is the best person to go to with that...
Ahh... i think i have this. my ear started hurting two days ago and at first i though i might have had an ear infection, but it didn't feel internal. second day i realized there was a bump. i can feel it. my boyfriend looked at it last night and said he can see it but that it doesn't appear red. i am going to have him look at it again to see if he can see fluid and then go see a doctor. man this thing hurts and i have to wear head phones a lot at work. thank you so much for posting
i have the same thing but its on my earlobe and it has gotten HUGE im 16 and i had a ice coffee up to my ear all school day because no on knows what it is i punctured it and this clear fluid comes out but it came back like 20 minutes after. do you think its the same thing or like should i see a doctor
I think I have the same thing as well. I've had it now for three days, and it's a pain, not including that I usually sleep on that side of my head. I have dealt with this pain, and a lot of sleep-loss, and I still don't know what to do for it.
My mom told me it is a little white bump. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
I have a bump on the outer right ear canal. I's not red and I've had it for several months.Recently it was looked at by my doctor and she said it was a natural formation in the canal.I disagree since I don't ever remember having it before several months ago. And I have a high pitched ring when I cover my right ear with my hand. What is going on here?
I have a similar prob and has been ongoing for over 10 yrs or more.. A few yrs ago i improvised a loop made of paper clip with some sanitisation with hot water and coated with Germoline.. i proceeded to pry out any debri.. i was able to remove lots of crap which was dark fibrous debri. Now i am left with similar cysts fairly large around the canal which makes the already narrow canal even narrower, which was i suspect the original cause of probs. How do i now get these large cysts removed?? I suspect I may have to go to ENT going by preeceeding comments..
I have this same problem. I am a male at 28 years of age. It started about a year ago, I had this small painful bump inside the outer ear canal. I proceed to squeeze it with a Qtip and green pus came out. Took over a month for the puss to stop filling that spot.
It came back again last week. I tried the same thing with a Qtip but nothing happened. A couple days later my whole outer ear canal and even the cartilage around the ear canal was sore to the touch. I could not sleep on that side of my head because of the pain. The next night I slowly rested my head on that side and then felt like something was in my ear. My ear canal was filled with blood and yellow puss. Mostly yellow puss. When I laid on that side again and moved my head around on that side there was more. This went on several times. Its been 2 days since then and its still draining. Now there's puss, blood, and I think sebum( its somewhat solid white substance, looks like whats in pimples but on a larger scale). The amount of puss has decreased but there still seams to be a large amount. The pain went away the minute it popped. My guess its a sebaceous cyst. I use hydrogen peroxide multiple times a day to clean the area. Any other info of what this might be let may be helpful. Thanks.
Hey guys, I have the same exact thing going on and its been about 2 weeks. I wanted to let you know that my mom had the same problem earlier in the year and it turned out to be MRSA. it spread from her ear canal to her jaw...make sure you have the doctors do a culture so they can treat the MRSA so it won't come back!
I agree with presidentLincoln. I got my sebaceous cyst at the entrance of my ear canal. I'm guessing poor diet / weight gain / use of in ear earbuds caused it. Sore and painful. Heat and castor oil can be used to speed up it coming to the surface. google "ear beer" for how scuba divers clean their ears after swimming in polluted waters.
Hey I have a similar problem I am swimmer so I am not sure if this has to do with it. But I have a small but painful bump on my outer ear. I am trying to figure out what it is I haven't tried to pop it or anything I just hope its nothing serious.
Most people don't understand is that a candida fungus starts growing, your cells fight it off by creating a solid sac around the infected area. Solution:
Get a small needle from the pharmacy and hydrogen peroxide and inject into the eye (white part hardest) of the cyst. At first it will expand then contract. Keep applying. If there if bleeding use a band aid with baking soda mixed 1 part apple cider and paste.
Fungus dislikes ph base and is toxic to fungus. The oxidization also kills retarded cells and fundus, leaving healthy cells healthy.
