There are several potential causes of excessive mucous production in the stool. Most of these causes are benign (especially in a 19 year-old) but, occasionally, mucous-producing tumors (both benign and malignant) in the rectum can cause similar symptoms.
My best advice to you is to see your physician for an anoscopic examination. If this fails to identify a cause for your symptoms, then referral to a gastroenterologist may be indicated.
Sincerely/ Robert A. Wascher, MD, FACS
