I see a flashing dot in the corner of my left eye. It comes randomly at different times of the day and I usually don't notice it as much when the light in the room stays the same. If I go from looking at the computer screen, for instance, and then look at a dark object it appears.
I noticed it the first time when I was in a job interview and now I cannot seem to be rid of it. It's only in the one eye and it is driving me crazy. It's just a small round dot that flashes in place for about one second or so but it happens often.
Please help me. I know i need to see a doctor, I would just like to have a knowledge base before I make an appointment. Thank you.

yeah
I remember hearing about this once and it is usually caused by the back of the retna peeling off the back of the eye the black dots that you are referring to are usually called "floaters" you should see the eye doctor cause they will use a laser and stop the retna from peeling if it is not stopped in time you could become blind...Im not a specialist or anything I just remember hearing this...you should really see an eye specialist!

Retinal Detachment
You have a retinal detachment I seen flashing lights and I still do sometimes, they can give you an injection in the eye or surgey. I got an eye injection and if you seen flashing lights now, when they give you the injection the light will be blocking your line of sight in the eye they gave you the injection in. If you do not get it checked out you will go blind. You probably already will have vision loss after this. My vision got as bad as 20/200 (the big E) and I couldn't even see the whole E and I am only 16 so it is a very serious condition. The doctors said I will never be able to get all my vision back and after that my doctors said they thought I was going to go blind right before there own eyes. Hope this was useful to you!

Scotoma
I have the same thing as the two first guys that posted. My vision is very good! but I see white dots in my left eye that appears for one illusive second and makes my hair raise because its annoying. its still scotma, it happens sometimes like the guy said, when you look from something bright to something else and it flashes, sometimes it has different colors but mostly white, with a ring around it. Sometimes it flots down or up in the corner slowly but quickly disappears when you close your eyes. I doctor told me there was nothing that can be done. I remeber when I was twelve i had an eye injury and had a very bad blood shot in the same spot in my left eye. Now years later I can't seem to get rid of the blinking spots that only appear occasionally. At first it was really bad, like bright dots that frighten you, and then it tapered off to just occasianl blinking white dots sometimes not noticed. however, the peripheal in my that spot is more sensitive than in my right eye. Check it out anyway because if there is a cure i would like to know. Did any of you have an injury to your eye a while back? it could be the cause...it doesn't just happen unless something happened to your eye that you might have overlooked.

Elusive Bright White Dots!
Hi Krt715, Yadda and Trayl,

I've got exactly the same thing!

Do you know what it's name is, if it's serious and what it actually is?

Mine only lasts for about a second and occurs about once a week.

Guys I'm having the exact same thing! It resembles a tiny dot of light that goes up or down like light traveling for a second and goes away, I spend 6hours on the computer and it never happens when I'm using it!! Only when I look away at other objects!!!
