I am 46 year old female. I have a rare eye disorder called vitelliform macular dystrophy(bests disease) . About two months ago, I started to notice some flashes of light in my vision. Not aura migrains , but flashes that lasted about a second and then went away. I noticed these while reading, watching tv, while on computer or out in a bright sky. I went to my eye specialist who found some leakage behind left eye from the bests disease. and he treated it. but the symptoms continued along with aura migrains in both eyes. I went to my primary dr and got a bunch of blood work done as well as an mri. Everything came back normal. I keep reading about retina detachment being the number one reason for the bright quick flashes of light but my eye dr did not say I had that. I am getting tired of worrying about my eyes and the more I think about the flashes the more they happen. I suffer from health anxiety and keep worrying that I have some sort of vascular condition that was overlooked. But my all my blood work was normal,. and my blood pressure was normal. no heart conditions, and I feel great other then the eyes. I only see the flashes in bright light like I said. I do not understand it and they are sometimes rotating and look like bright little fan blades rotating in my eyes. Please someone tell me they have experienced this. Can it be from the bests disease? It is starting to really get on my nerves and taking over my life with worry. What the heck is wrong with my eyes??
I really wish someone would reply to this post, its been up for almost 2 weeks. Does anyone out there have bests disease? its a rare eye disorder. My doctor told me that this condition is causing my symptoms. I am still seeing flashes in my vision when I look at something bright. Computer screen, sky, tv..etc
I have the same eye flashes and also cloudy curtain in my right eye my health care is brilliant and I go for regular check ups as I still have floaters I am told the gel behind the eyes is not behaving and if I get grey curtain in either eyes then I should visit the A&E straight away hope this helps!!
I think sometimes we have to accept that sometimes our bodies do things that have zero worrysome explanation. I have what you could call a blind spot in the centre of my vision, but looks a lot like a light, I get this usually long before any flashing aura that is typical of a migraine. I have learned to recognise this as a precursor to migraines and take medication before it develops. I get them mostly when I'm tired or stressed. It sounds like you have a pre migraine symptom. Please try not to worry about every little ailment you have as this will increase your anxiety levels, hence trigger migraines. Not all Migraines are followed by pain. You can get cognitive Behaviour Therapy for your anxiety. I tried EFT (Emotional Freedom Technology) and it works wonders. Hope you feel better soon x
I too have this. Flashers and floaters for over a year now. Eyes have been looked at five times. They can find nothing. The fans have started as well. This I am told is from Migranes that I cannot feel. I too worry that they are missing something because at the same time I have other symptoms.... I am a female and losing hair rapidly. I have a hernia (hole) and have a cough from it.
I have had floaters for YEARS and they seem to stay under control if I take 20 mg of LUTEIN every day (found in the vitamin section of any store.) Most Lutein caps have 6 mg. of Lutein, but to correct floaters I have found that a daily dose of Lutein 20 mg really helps. They also sell a multivitamin for your eyes with Vitamin A, C, and Lutein in it, which can give you a bit more eye nutrition. However, just this week I have experienced my first "flash of light" and I thought it might be a precursor to a painless migraine, but it has persisted all week. I will continue to monitor it during a weekend of good, restful sleep and see if I need to have it examined by my opthomoligist next week.
