PUT IT like this...
IF you think you are "mature" enough to
have sex, then you should be mature enough
to take care of your body and deal with
your health.

haha, if you dont no what an STD or the
other diseases and facts that come along
with having sex.. then you are way to
young to even think about having sex. In
Canada, you dont have to have a pap smear
to go on birth control but that is only if
you are not sexually active. It is really
important that you do get one cuz your
doc. can catch anything before it gets out
of hand if there is something wrong. I am
17 years old and i am sexually active
without a pap smear. I just scheduled mine
for the first time and im really nervous
about it but my friends just keep telling
me that i have to go that i could have
cancer and i have not got checked yet. I
have held it off for soo long that now i
want to go because i dont want anything to
happen to me or me not be able to have
kids in the future. Having sex requires
you to mature and do the adult things
which includes getting regular check ups
from your doc.

Condoms do not fully protect you form
everything, but they DO help.
SOME cervical cancers are caused by HPV,
but you can get cervical cancer without
having HPV.
You do need a PAP. If you can handle sex,
you can handle a PAP. You basically get a
q-tip inside of your vagina to swab the
cervix, and it is not painful. My doc does
a PAP in 30
seconds.
Cari, is it like those old Dominoes ads?
30 seconds or less or its free?
That is an impressive speed!

I didn't ask what an STD was.
I asked whether or not HPV was an STD.

Yes, I was nervous my first vist. I still
hate it, but I have a female gynecologist
who chit chats all during the exam. It
really only takes a few minutes and mine
have never been painful. And..... yes,
they check your breasts and thank goodness
they do. Breast cancer awareness is so
important. I have to get a mammogram
every six months, because I have lumps,
fortunately they have always been benign.
Just another part of becoming a woman.
Endure it, you will feel better if you do.
I have heard you can get birth control
pills without seeing a doctor, but in that
case you need to make sure your partner
uses a condom, as well, and that still
doesn't rule out cervical, uterine, or
ovarian cancer. Believe me, there is
nothing to it! It bothers me worse to get
my teeth cleaned! lol

I'm fed up of girls my age being prepared
to have sex but not take care of their
health.
I'm not being holier than thou but grip
your teeth and go and get your pap for
heavens - its about your health.
Go to a doctor who you've heard is good. I
got my first last year after i'd been
sexually active for a year. I was nervous
as hell, i didnt know what to do or how to
lie but my doc was so calming. She had me
very relaxed talking about stuff and if
i'm honest didnt feel a thing. They also
check your breats and i dont know about
you but I feel very relieved to find out i
dont have cancer.
Nobody skips to the gyno's office...but
its what you really should do.
hope you decide to
get over your fears!

well i wouldnt be any different than you
if i waited a few months to do this.
I haven't been active a whole
year...barely even half a year.
I WILL eventually do this. I just don't
want to just yet.
I have absolutely no concerns about STDs.
I've been with only one guy and he gets
checked periodically (required) and has
nothing. So I'm not concerned at all.

Has he been tested for HPV? Probably not.
They don't test men.

I want to add- even if your guy thinks he
is std free, if he has ever had sex, there
is a chance he is carrying something and
doesn't know. Including HPV- which can
cause cervical cancer. That is the reason
paps are important, because you can't just
call the guy up and ask him- he might
never know he had anything.
Pap smears are easier and more comfortable
than the dentist, in my opinion. Slightly
uncomfortable, yes, because you're naked
and well, really naked. But you get used
to it, it's fast, it's not too bad.
My doc even warms up the equipment before
she puts it in, smears lube all over it,
it's not uncomfortable at all.
