First Max Fac appointment

Hello,
I have TMD, first diagnosed when I was 14, when my jaw dislocated and due to the muscle spasms, didn't relocate without valium and manual manipulation.

I was given a splint, which I wore at night for a few years until I was no longer bothered with symptoms.

A few weeks ago, my jaw dislocated again, and all I can describe it like is a feeling that the cartlidge disc moved too, and wouldn't allow the jaw to relocate for a good few minutes. Then followed pain, in the jaw, face and head, and being unable to open my mouth more than a few centimeters.

I went to my dentist, and she has referred me to the Max Fac specialist, and taken moulds for a new splint (should have that next week).

I do not grind my teeth, but it would appear that I clench, and clench without actually closing my teeth together, if that makes sense?

So I'm looking for information on what to expect from my first appointment. What will they offer in way of treatment? Also, is it recommended that I wear the splint 24/7 since I am not a grinder?

Thanks!
