Q: Finger and nail discoloration

Hello doctor,

My right index finger and the area around it is noticeably darker
than the other fingers. I am a nail biter and about a year ago
had severely bitten this finger due to stress.
I noticed the discoloration about 4-5 months ago
and have been hoping that it would gradually fade away but that has yet to happen.
Also, I recently noticed that the right side area of my finger had become darker as well.

So my question is that is this a fungal infection and I should consult my doctor
or is it a trauma that I will have to wait for it to heal?

Thank you for your help!

PS. I have been stopping myself from biting it for about a month now but no visible
changes in the discoloration has occured yet.
