A group of extremist physicians has petitioned the FDA to outlaw use of opioid medications in the treatment of chronic pain. While this would seem far fetched, a number of well known physicians have signed on to this document based on paranoia and inadequate skills with which to manage chronic pain. You can read their petition here: http://www.citizen.org/documents/2048.pdf and you may submit your comments to the FDA here: http://www.regulations.gov/#!submitComment ;D=FDA-2012-P-0818-0001
It is necessary for everyone receiving opioids for chronic pain contact the FDA to express the degree to which the medications help make you functional and reduce your pain. If this radical physician group has their way, no one will be permitted to receive over 100mg morphine equivalents per day (about the same as 3 roxicodone max strength) and can only receive treatment for 90 days maximum.
