Hello,

I have a question. About three years ago I broke my femur and had two operations. I now have pins, plates and screws in my leg. I am 16 years old and my doctor says that I dont need to remove the hardware, because I have stopped growing. I was just wondering that if I remove them will it make any difference. In cold weather it is extremely sore and while and especialy after I do sport it hurts. It does this clicking thing that is realy sore.

Any advise. I thought that if it wont make a difference there is no point in going for an unnecasary surgery.

Thank you very much

Honestly, an orthopedic surgeon would give you a better second opinion than myself... However, another surgery just to remove the hardware may cause more trouble than what you are currently experiencing. The issues that you are describing may not even be coming from the hardware itself, but may be a muscle weakness or imbalance along with some degenerative (arthritic) changes. Good Luck.
