So I don't really know where to begin. Hm.

From time to time I hear a shaking, like an earthquake. It's usually before or after sleeping, mostly apparent when I'm being lazy and napping despite the fact that I've had more than enough sleep. Sometimes it's coupled with sleep paralysis, with me only being able to move my fingers. It *sounds* like an earthquake (I don't know if I can really use the word sound since it's all in my head), and often my head feels strange and muddled, and there's pressure on my ears. Sometimes there's a bit of ringing, as well.

It was a lot worse a few years ago when I had pretty bad insomnia. Every time I couldn't fall asleep, I'd hear/feel it which would make sleep even more difficult.

It's nothing serious or lifestyle inhibiting, but I'm really just curious as to what it is. Just a delusion, perhaps?

I'd like any and all input, thanks!

I don't know what it is - but I have the exact same thing happen to me. In fact, I'm up surfing the net because it just happened - and its scary. Except it's not a ringing, but a buzzing that accompanies it for me. Does anybody know what this is? Please help!

About once a month I wake up and feel paralized with a wierd buzzing in my head. I almost feel like I am having a seizure. I can't talk or move. I try yelling to my husband but nothing comes out. It is really scary. I'm glad that someone else is talking about it. I was starting to feel like I was going crazy. If anyone knows what this is, please let me know!!!

I did some additional research on the web. It seems that this might be "Sleep Paralysis".

So I am 16 and i have been having headaches for nearly 2 years. At least once a week i get these horrible dreams where i am in my room asleep, but not really asleep. and all of a sudden i start shaking then i hear a noise kind of like a faint door bell and it slowly gets louder then it begins to pulsait, and my body burns as it pulsaits, my body wont move and i wake up feeling as though i had just seen my own death.
Unlike all of you i can either make the sound of an earthquake in my head. or it just starts hurting when i have a headache. also i constantly have spots in my eyes, like my eyes have curtains infront of them and there are wholes in the curtains. infact i loose sight in my eyes accasionally. I have seen so many doctors and non can figure it out. Lately its become to much. my head is constantly hurting i can barrely get out of bed anymore.

From time to time I hear a scraping or shaking sound inside my head, not unlike a percussion shaker. A couple shakes; I'll hear it for a couple minutes sometimes, then not for weeks.

No pain associated with it...it's just something I hear in there but when I do hear it the sound is fairly loud in comparison to other sounds...hmmm.

Vibrating/Sinking feeling in brain
I have not had the paralysis that most have talked about but I often have this vibrating buzzing in my brain. I sometimes feel like it is a "sinking" feeling, but that isn't even the right way to describe it. I usually feel it when I am quiet and tired. I have been to my doctor about it and we have done a lot of test but all come back negative/no problems.
I had a seizure 2 years ago unexpectedly as well, and after an MRI/EEG etc.. they also found nothing. I wonder if there really is something going on or if it is due to stress/lack of sleep (I am a new mom and don't get much rest). If any one has any ideas though I am up for listening!

Earthquake feeling in my head
I have had the earthquake feeling inside my head too. I have also had the being awake/not awake and not being able to move while I am trying to wake up. I am so glad that I am not alone, it is the weirdest feeling. I do suffer from anxiety and lack of sleep alot of the time, so maybe it is just that. I have dizzy spells and had a brain scan and my brain is normal. My allergy specialist thought that they were hormonal. Anyway at least there are a few of us going through this.

Cranial earthquakes
I just recently had this happen to me as well. Both times I was driving on the interstate. The first time was very mild, I felt a bit muddled in my thinking for a few seconds, then I was left with a feeling of just generally not feeling well, nothing specific I could pinpoint. My wife was in the car that time and I simply told her I thought she should drive as I didnt feel well. The second time was about 10 days later, I was just getting off of work, was not particularly tired, because I work 3rd shift and had been drinking coffee all night. I wasnt even on the interstate 30 seconds, when suddenly, I felt a powerful indescribable sensation in my head as if someone had come up and sucker punched me in my head-but without any pain. I felt literally like someone had "rung my bell". I was in very light traffic thankfully and was able to pull over safely and get a ride home. I am now petrified to drive alone because I have no idea if this will occur again, if it will be getting progressively worse, and if I will be unable to have any control of my actions should it occur again. I am practically having panic attacks while driving, worrying about it. Anyone have any new info on what treatment(s) I should be seeking?

Did anyone ever speak to their doctor about this? I have had the head earthquake experience a few times now, but I was wide awake and sitting both times. It passed quickly and I felt okay right after, but it certainly scared me. Just curious if anyone got more information about this?

vibration in left side of my head and left side of body
I had something similar which effect my life when it happens. It all started early this year about a week after i cam back from my holiday. One moring when i still sleeping, i had very sudden strong vibration in my left side of my head and left side of my body including my left arms and legs. the vibration lasts about 5 seconds and then stop. At first, i thought is my iphone vibrating, but is not. then the vibration keeps coming back on and off which leads me to vomiting everytime the vibration stop. this been going on for about four hours. Ihad lots of blood test done, had ct scan, xray and mri scan, but nothing found. Seen neurologist and he told me might be when my heart pumps blood to brain, it pumps too much. i been put on to take amitriptyline and it seems to stop the vibration for half year and now recently, it comes back to me again. My gp raise my medication to 25mg and two weeks later, it still coming back so now i been put on 50mg for three days now and the vibration still comes back, but don't last as long as it first time it happen. I planning to ask my gp to refer me to private as i hate waiting for another three months before seeing neurologist again. The scary things about this vibration is not knowing when it will happen and how long will it lasts. if anyone else here experience exactly same things as me, i would be grateful to know .

Hey, I'm 18 y/o and have been experiencing the same sort of vibrating inside my skull + pressure on the ears ... have only experienced it a few times, always when I'm having trouble getting to sleep. Just experienced it now, and thought I'd google it to help calm myself down

I've only experienced these over the course of the last 7 or so months ... Which have literally been the most stressful + anxiety filled months of my life. My conclusion is that all of us are experiencing this due to stress. If anyone here visits a neurologist and discovers what the heck this is, and if it's damaging our brains, please, let us know. I've experienced the paralysis as well, but to a lesser degree
.. It's more like a 'delay of movement' for me

I've also had trouble with insomnia for the last year or so, like many of you here. Unlike the rest of you, however, I'm a very athletic person and am not on any meds of any sort. Neither do I have a history of anxiety or anything

I'm experiencing the brain shake too. I'm under a huge amount of stress and I believe from what I've read it's a form of panic attack, I also feel my heart pumping strongly when I experience the shakes. EVERYONE HERE, we must all do out best to reduce our anxiety - deep breathing, exercise, yoga, massage, anything that will help as stress seems to go hand in hand with this awful symptom.

Brain shakes
I've been experiencing the same thing! I've been wanting to google it all day but couldn't really figure out how to describe it. For me it's like the sensation you get in your head when you are startled or suprised. Not the physical jump but the jump in your attention... or something. But it's definitely in my head and after the brief buzz it turns to almost a shiver down my neck and shoulders. Coincidentally I recently weaned myself off my anxiety meds. If this is anxiety related then I have to find something else to alleviate my symptoms. Exercise has helped before so I guess I'll need to start that up again. Yoga is great... I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who experiences this! I thought for sure I was about to have an aneurysm or something.
