I have had the IUD since April 09, I have gained 30 lbs and have had the acne on the face and back, like I have heard many other people have had. I have two children a 5yr old boy and 3yr old girl, I am a smoker and casual drinker and in both of my pregnancies I quit smoking and drinking before I found out I was pregnant (for some odd reason I wasn't craving them). For the past week I have been super tired, my breasts are very swollen and hurt, and I just feell like crap! I have read many posts where people feel the same way they did in their last pregnancys... but I really think I am pregnant!!! lol I took two tests this morning and they both were negative. I am wondering what I should do... Is it worth this constant weight gain and stresses that I am pregnant? Should I get the copper IUD? I am just very lost. Please give me some advice!
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. If there is any history of unprotected intercourse, then please confirm your pregnancy status by getting a urine for pregnancy test done. I would suggest you to do a urine for pregnancy test or get your serum HCG levels estimated. The HCG (it is a hormone) levels rise only in pregnancy and hCG can be detected in urine after implantation of zygote in the wall of the uterus formed by the union of the sperm & the ovum, which occurs six to twelve days after fertilization.
So HCG presence will confirm the status of your pregnancy. Ideally urine for pregnancy test should be done after 1 week of your missed periods date. You can also get your serum HCG test done. If pregnancy is ruled out these symptoms can be due to hormonal imbalance also. If pregnancy is confirmed then the IUD has to be taken out as soon as possible. So my sincere advice would be to consult a gynecologist and get your pregnancy status cleared. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
