Q: Feeling hypoglycemic

I have never been diagnosed with hypo, but I certainly do have the symptoms sometimes. I have begun testing my blood, and even at times when I'm having the symptoms (tired, shaky, weak) my bg is about 95-99. This has been happening to me alot lately in the mid morning. If I eat 1c plain yogurt and 1/2 a banana at 8:30 or 9:00 by 11:30 or so I am feeling LOW. I eat and it takes about 1/2 -1 hour to feel better. Any suggestions on what/when I can eat to keep from having this terrible low feeling?

From what I understand a banana is not good. It has a lot of sugar in it. Try things with more protien such as an egg or toast with peanut butter or almond buttter. Most of us eat something every two hours to keep us from going low. A good snack is almonds, cheese, or celery sticks. Also if your having coffee in the morning caffiene is a big trigger that lowers your blood sugar. If you can try to avoid this. I know it's really hard at first so at least limit your intake.

Also, f you really feel like you have hypoglycemia you should look up Stan's diet on this forum. He has a lot of great information. He has a lot of great advise because he has gone through this and has gotten better.

I agree with the above user. Whole grain breads, peanut butter, cheeses, no sugar soy milk, beans, nuts, seeds, meats, and fresh veggies. I am hypoglycemic, and as sad as it is, I drink no caffeine or alcohol, and I keep my sugars to a minimum. Good luck! Stay strong and positive.
