asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 9th, 2009
I am seeing a doctor and am on workman's comp. I am not comfortable with a doctor I was referred to. If I go see another doctor should I tell him I already saw a different doctor? Please help.

It is not uncommon for a patient not to feel comfortable with a doctor. You might want to hear another opinion from another doctor.

However, it might be important for the new doctor to know that you have already visited another doctor before, because there is a possibility that you might forget to mention certain details that might be helpful about the order of the diagnostic procedures or about the treatment.

It might save you from incorrect treatment and wasting more money than needed if you repeat the same examinations. The new doctor might ask the previous doctor about his observations and conclusions, as well as for the results from the examinations which might not all be available to you.

To summarize, it is advisable to tell your new doctor that you have already visited another doctor. Also, feel free to tell him what you find uncomfortable with the previous doctor, in order to try to avoid the same mistake.
