Q: faster than normal heart beat

I'm a 23 year old female and lately (the past few weeks) I have noticed that my heart is beating faster than it used to. It's not specific stages or palpitations, and it doesn't race, but the consistent speed seems faster than it used to be, and when I'm paying attention I can feel it beating fast. I know many things can contribute to this. I dont have any conditions or diseases. However, I've gained some weight in the past few months and I dont exercise anymore (I used to exercise all the time). So maybe that has something to do with it. I didnt think gaining a few pounds though would make my heart rate go up so much. At rest, it beats almost 100 times per minute (I heard between 60-80 is normal) Any ideas?
I dont drink caffeine, but I do eat chocolate. Chocolate has never seemed to cause any problems before -- and from what I understand, there's not that much caffeine in chocolate. Any help would be appreciated!!

I suppose it will depend. What is your weight?

Chocolate DOES contain caffeine...you might want to calculate the amount of caffeine you intake daily. You can do that here:

I am around 144 lbs .. and working on losing weight. I don't have chocolate every day, but as of now Im going to cut it out completely and see if that helps.

If you suspect that there is something ELSE going on and that your heart palpitations are not normal, I'd suggest that you seek help from a cardiologist and request and EEG or overnight halter monitor so that you can double check your symptoms.

It still might be a good idea to see a cardiologist to see what's going on...
