Q: Eye disorders versus neurological disorders
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 26th, 2008
I lost the vision in my left eye over a 2 day period. I have seen an optometrist and an opthamologist who both examined my eyes and told me they could find no problem. They advised me to seek medical care. I saw a doctor who ordered a ct scan. The results of the ct scan showed no problems. I have a dr appointment in a few days when i expect them to order a mri. However, no one has given me any kind of possible diagnosis or treatment yet. What are some possible reasons or diagnosises for sudden vision loss in one eye?

If the optometrist and ophthalmologist didn't find any eye disorder then the problem could be located in the optic nerve, optic pathway or occipital part of the brain cortex. The ophthalmologist probably referred you to a neurologist to examine you for any neurological disorder. A CT-scan and MRI should reveal if there is a brain lesion causing blindness.

You can ask for second opinion from an ophthalmologist and neurologist.
