Five days ago I began having tooth pain that radiated to the center of my mouth to my ear.It feels as if a volcano is going to erupt in my mouth when the pain comes. It will go away or subside a good amount for a little while but will return with a vengeance. I saw the dentist today and the x-rays were normal. It also hurts to bite down on the back two teeth one of which is a crown. Can something be going on that the x-ray did not identify. The dentist put me on an antibiotic. This is the third time in my life that I have experienced this kind of pain and I would not wish it on an enemy.

toothache
have you considered that maybe it is not a tooth ache causing the pain, maybe it is a trapped nerve?? maybe its time to see a doc rather than a dentist...

thank you, I have not considered that. The closest thing I came across was possibly a fractured nerve below the tooth. I am unsure how this is detected though.
