i think i am bipolar. i am have extreme mood swings, constantly buying clothes, i always sleep even though im not fatigue. I find it hard to motivate myself and have regular thoughts of suicide. I believe my depression started when my mum and dad seperated a year ago. i whitnessed alot of awful things where my dad would self harm in front my me, he attempted to hang himself infront of me once, also he was violent towards my little brother, my mum and myself. my dad would constantly drink and tell me he was away to kill hiself and he took drank bottles of vodka every night and was arrested several times for his aggressive behaviour. i thought i dealed with this but i have an 'episode' the other weeek where i couldnt stop shaking and sat infront of my mirror crying and scratching my face, i really scared myself that night and i think i need help before i end up like my dad.

thank you :(

Hello.

Though it may seem that your symptoms are due to Bipolar Disorder, these are not sufficient for a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder. You may have to consult a mental health professional (psychiatrist/psychologist), for a complete evaluation and diagnosis. Your father's symptoms could be due to personality issues as well as possibly bipolar.

These could be features of mixed episodes of Bipolar Disorder. But you need a professional consultation. You might need to take medication and psychotherapy for a long term benefit.

Take care.
