Hi

I would appreciate some advice. Twice over the last two months I have awoken with an explosion in my head like a light bulb exploding and then a headache after this. I am on blood pressure tablets and wonder what tests I should have? I am quite fit and am into prevention. Any advice is appreciated. I sort of think now I should seek medical advice but just been on google and searched for information and came up with this site.

Kind regards

You should see a neurologist specialized in diagnosing and treating headaches.
Since you are hypertensive patient, it could be that you have sleep apnea at the same time, sleep disorder that is associated with interrupted sleep and headache.
This headache can be a cluster headache, or a hypnic headache, provoked by different underlying conditions.
You can get some information about exploding head syndrome (explosive sounds that awakes the sleeper, but without present headache).

Best wishes!
